San Antonio NEISD’s Space and Engineering Technologies Academy Visits MTSI New Braunfels for Electric Aircraft Demonstration
On July 29th, students from the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy in San Antonio NEISD had the unique opportunity to visit the MTSI New Braunfels electric aircraft test team. Over several hours, students rotated through various stations, and gained insight into both current and future electric aircraft technologies.
One highlight of the visit was a presentation on Advanced Air Mobility by a representative from the local FAA Safety Team. The session provided the students with a comprehensive understanding of the innovations and safety measures shaping the future of aviation.
Students also had the chance to see two cutting-edge electric aircrafts up close: the Pipistrel Velis Electro and the Pyka Pelican Cargo. The MTSI aircrew conducted static displays and ground run demonstrations that offered the students an in-depth look at these advanced aircrafts.
Additionally, the students experienced the thrill of flying an eVTOL aircraft through the Pivotal Blackfly simulator. The hands-on experience allowed them to appreciate the complexities and excitement of piloting electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
MTSI (Modern Technology Solutions, Inc.) plays a crucial role in supporting AFWERX, the innovation arm of the Air Force. MTSI operates three types of electric aircrafts at two different locations in Ohio and Texas. Beyond aircraft operations, MTSI provides essential program support for various AFWERX initiatives, spanning space technology, advanced air mobility, and USAF innovation networks.
This visit not only educated the students about the latest advancements in electric aviation but also inspired the next generation of engineers and technologists.
